Welcome to the Vector Marketing Rumours and Questions page. My name is Mike Monroe and I am the digital strategy manager for Vector Marketing. I started working with Vector in 2001 and have experienced first-hand the tremendous opportunities for personal and professional growth this company offers.
We appreciate that many of you go online in search of more information about what we do, and I wanted to address some rumours and unusual questions that come up about our company from time to time.
Part of my role is to separate fact from fiction so that you can create an informed opinion about Vector Marketing, be that positive, negative, or neutral.
Let's look at some uncommon rumours and questions that have popped up recently...
Is the Vector Marketing recruitment process dangerous? Am I safe to go to the interview I was contacted about via phone, text, direct mail, or social media?
Vector Marketing has been selling Cutco cutlery here in the Canada since 1990. We have always had direct contact with potential recruits. Because the communication tools society uses continue to evolve, so do our methods of getting in touch with potential applicants. Text or social media aren't traditional ways of communicating during the application process, but many Vector Marketing offices are now using them to reach out and recruit.
We urge everyone to do their homework when considering any work opportunity. As for Vector, our interviews are conducted at established branch offices and have not been linked to any unsafe behavior.
If you ever have a question as to whether a Vector office is legitimate, you can contact us at 1-866-704-0682.
Why have I seen things online suggesting I may be in danger?
In the summer of 2015, someone heard a story, possibly an urban legend, that an unnamed company was offering high pay to get people in for interviews, and then kidnapping them. As a good Samaritan, they decided to warn people for their safety. (I'm sure you've seen "warning" emails and posts about various similar stories.) Because Vector offers a high rate of pay for people with little or no experience, our name somehow got attached to the story.
Snopes.com, CBS, Fox, and the BBB have all investigated and reported the rumours to be false. You can review each at the following links:
I got a letter in the mail advertising summer or winter work. Is this a letter from Vector?
Yes, those are our letters. Each year, we send letters to students offering summer work and winter break work.
This program is limited to the U.S. arm of Vector Marketing. If you're unsure whether a letter you received is an official Vector letter, please call 1-866-704-0682.
Why do some letters have a logo and some do not?
We send different versions of the letters to different markets. Some letters have logos, some do not, some letters have the logo on the envelope but not the letter itself. There are a few different versions of the letter that people may have seen.
I was given a letter at my school or at a school function advertising summer work. Is this a letter from Vector?
Yes, those are our letters. Most letters are sent through the mail. In some territories, letters are handed to high school seniors at graduation, graduation practice, or other senior events.
I was contacted by someone who said they are with Vector via text or Facebook and invited in for an interview. Is that really a contact from Vector?
This is most likely a legitimate contact from Vector. Due to the popularity of social media, we recently began using Facebook and other platforms to reach out to potential applicants.
We urge everyone to do their homework when considering any work opportunity. As for Vector, our interviews are conducted at established branch offices and have not been linked to any unsafe behavior.
If you ever have a question as to whether a Vector office is legitimate, you can contact us at 1-866-704-0682.
I was contacted and told that someone referred me for work with Vector. I don't recognize the name of the person that referred me. Is that really a contact from Vector?
This is most likely a legitimate contact from Vector. We give our sales representatives an opportunity to refer people to our positions. In some cases, they give us a list of every contact in their phone or every Facebook friend that they have. Some people have hundreds of phone contacts or Facebook friends. If a few of them don't remember the person that referred them, we will still let them know that we have work available and offer them the opportunity to get more information.
Again, we urge everyone to do their homework when considering any work opportunity. As for Vector, our interviews are conducted at established branch offices and have not been linked to any unsafe behavior.
If you ever have a question as to whether a Vector office is legitimate, you can contact us at 1-866-704-0682.
Do you have to pay any money to work with Vector?
In the past, Vector Canada asked for a 100% refundable deposit on the sample set of knives provided to sales reps to show Cutco. In September of 2017, after hearing feedback from many of you, we eliminated the sample deposit.
Is Vector a Multi-Level-Marketing Company?
No, we are a single level marketing company.
Why do people claim that you are MLM?
We're not really sure. We assume that our personal recruiting program has been confused with Multi-Level-Marketing (MLM). MLM companies encourage their sales representatives to create a "down-line" of other reps to sell under them. The rep is typically paid on the down-line, and in many cases can stop selling because they make so much off of their down-line. While our reps can win prizes/earn incentives for personal recruits, we do not pay them on multiple layers like a traditional multi-level marketing company. Representatives do not build down-lines and they are not required to participate in this program to work with us. Many choose to do so simply out of excitement for the position. We think this is where the confusion lies.
