Having a Dream
I loved watching the Olympics and I love the stories the best. Seeing the pride of people representing their country, and seeing people winning a medal was spectacular. Above all though I loved the stories of the athletes and what being there meant to them.
One after another these athletes shared the obstacles that they had to overcome, and the amount of hard work that was necessary for them to make it to the Olympics. Not everyone won a medal but I didn’t hear one athlete say “I didn’t win a medal and I regret all the energy I gave to pursuing this dream.”
Sometimes hard work, dedication and overcoming obstacles scares people off, but for those that do put themselves out there to go after a dream I’ve found they never ever regretted it. They don’t because as special as being at the Games is, as special as winning a medal must be, it’s not as powerful as becoming the person they have become by going after their dreams.
My kids have taught me the popular phrase of the day YOLO “You Only Live Once.” Well that phrase has positive and negative connotations to whatever actions might come after but overall it’s awesome. If you only live once it would be best to be living a life pursuing dreams.
When is the last time you sat down and wrote out your professional and personal dreams? If it wasn’t recently you might want to sit down again because as time moves on things change and so do our dreams. Imagine the life you would lead and the person you would be if you always had clarity with your dreams. Let’s live that life and YOLO can be your motto!
